Bladder and bowel functions

As the body weakens and the muscles of the bladder and bowel will be less effective and this could result in loss of bladder and bowel control. This can be distressing to the person as well as those caring for them.

What can you do?

It is important to keep the person clean and dry, the use of incontinence pads and regular cleaning and drying of the persons skin. Insertion of a tube or catheter into the persons bladder to allow urine to drain into a bag may be required.
Good skin hygiene is important to make the person feel comfortable.
